Research Opportunities
Undergraduate Researchers
The ÀϾÅÆ·²è fosters a vibrant and collaborative research environment for undergraduate students to participate in research. This provides students with opportunities to apply concepts learned in the classroom to real-world scientific questions, while advancing their critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills that extend beyond traditional coursework. Undergraduate researchers often work closely with faculty, graduate students, and research staff on ongoing laboratory projects. Students gain valuable experience in experimental design, data collection and analysis, scientific communication, and laboratory operations that prepare them for careers in research, healthcare, biotechnology, education, and other scientific fields. Many undergraduate students working in the laboratory for a year or more go on to complete an Honors Thesis, earning the student Latin honors upon graduation. ÀϾÅÆ·²è supports undergraduate research through numerous programs, including the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program and the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program.
Graduate Training
Graduate Training
The ÀϾÅÆ·²è offers a dynamic and interdisciplinary environment for graduate training in neuroscience and behavioral genetics. Graduate students can pursue doctoral training through the Behavioral Neuroscience program and the interdepartmental Neuroscience Ph.D. Program. To further enhance interdisciplinary expertise, graduate students may also pursue the , which provides specialized training in genetic and genomic approaches to studying behavior, neurobiology, and disease vulnerability. Our graduate programs attract highly motivated students with diverse academic backgrounds and strong commitments to research excellence. Recognizing that students enter with varying experiences and scientific interests, these programs are designed to provide flexibility while maintaining rigorous training in contemporary neuroscience and behavioral science.
Postdoctoral Research Associates
Postdoctoral Research Associates are highly trained scientists who have completed a Ph.D. and are pursuing advanced research training within a specialized area of neuroscience, genetics, or related disciplines. These positions involve a high degree of intellectual engagement, scientific independence, and scholarly productivity. Postdoctoral researchers are expected to design and conduct innovative research projects, contribute to grant and manuscript preparation, develop new technical and analytical expertise, and collaborate across interdisciplinary research teams. In addition to advancing their own research programs, postdoctoral associates often provide mentorship and supervision to graduate students, undergraduate researchers, and research staff, while developing the leadership and professional skills necessary for successful careers in academia, industry, government, or other research-intensive settings.
We are not currently recruiting postdoctoral research associates.
Research Assistants
Professional Research Assistants play an essential role in advancing the research mission of our laboratories. These positions are designed for individuals who have earned a bachelor degree and seek either a long-term career in research or additional training before pursuing graduate, medical, or other professional degrees. Research assistants contribute to all aspects of the research, including experimental design, data collection and analysis, laboratory management, regulatory compliance, and the training of new laboratory personnel. They bring diverse educational backgrounds, technical expertise, and research experiences that enhance the productivity and success of our research programs. Research assistants work closely with faculty, undergraduate students, graduate students, and other research staff to gain valuable experience in neuroscience and behavioral genetics research while developing professional skills in scientific communication, project management, and collaborative teamwork.
We are not currently recruiting any professional research assistants.
