<p>Distinguished Professor Kristi Anseth of the �Ͼ�Ʒ�� chemical and biological engineering department has been selected to receive the 2013 Hazel Barnes Prize, the highest faculty recognition for teaching and research awarded by the university.</p>

<p>Engineering students at the �Ͼ�Ʒ�� are gearing up for several days of intensive activity next week, when they will celebrate Engineering Days and display their hands-on design projects at the annual spring Engineering Design Expo.</p>
<p>Engineering Days, or E-Days, is an annual celebration of the engineering profession organized by the University of Colorado Engineering Council, or UCEC, and student honor societies. Activities include a water rocket launch, high school and college egg drops, a carnival and other fun activities for students.</p>

<p>Two �Ͼ�Ʒ�� undergraduate student teams have been named among the 11 top winners from a field of 5,636 teams that entered the 2013 international Mathematical Contest in Modeling this spring.</p>
<p>Only 375 teams, or 6 percent of those entering the contest, were from the United States. The others were from Canada, China, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Mexico, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden and the United Kingdom.</p>

<p>The �Ͼ�Ʒ�� will receive roughly $36 million from NASA to build and operate a space instrument for a mission led by the University of Central Florida that will study Earth upper atmosphere to learn more about the disruptive effects of space weather.</p>

<p>For some �Ͼ�Ʒ�� undergraduates, designing, building and flying small satellites is becoming a large part of their hands-on education.</p>

<p>For the first time, scientists have been able to predict how much pain people are feeling by looking at images of their brains, according to a new study led by the �Ͼ�Ʒ��.</p>

Clouds over the central Greenland Ice Sheet last July were “just right” for driving surface temperatures there above the melting point, according to a new study by scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the universities of Wisconsin, Idaho and Colorado. The study, published April 3, 2013 in Nature, found that thin, low-lying clouds allowed the sun energy to pass through and warm the surface of the ice, while at the same time trapping heat near the surface of the ice cap. This combination played a significant role in last summer's record-breaking melt.
