Prepare Your Devices for the New CU Secure Wi-Fi Network Nancy Portner Wed, 10/22/2025 - 15:39

As a critical step toward upgrading our campus wireless networks to make them more secure and less susceptible to registration issues, OIT is launching two new Wi-Fi networks, CU Secure and CU Guest in the December.

OIT is currently testing the new Wi-Fi networks, CU Secure and CU Guest, in the following buildings:

When you arrive at one of these buildings after the cutover date (noted above), you will not be able to connect to UCB Wireless and UCB Guest. Instead, your device will show the new CU Secure and CU Guest networks.

The UCB Wireless and UCB Guest networks will remain available in the rest of the campus buildings through late December, when they'll be fully retired and replaced by CU Secure and CU Guest. Wired networks and eduroam won’t be affected by any of these changes.

Prepare Your Devices

If you normally connect a personal laptop, smartphone or tablet to UCB Wireless or UCB Guest, you'll need to install the CU Secure certificate/app (short link: buff.link/downloadwifi) to connect to CU Secure. You should download the certificate now on your personal devices, such as your smartphone.

Once installed, the certificate/app will allow your device to connect to CU Secure Wi-Fi for two years, after which you will be prompted to re-register.

If your computer was purchased through the university, check to see if it's enrolled in Secure Computing. If it is, then it already has the CU Secure certificate installed; you don't need to take any action for that device.

CU Guest Wi-Fi

If you’re in an early-access building and can’t connect to CU Secure or eduroam, you have the option to log in to CU Guest.

Similar to the current UCB Guest network, CU Guest isn’t encrypted, doesn’t permit access to certain campus resources, and requires users to log in daily.

�Ͼ�Ʒ�� will be closed for Winter Break from December 24, 2025 - January 2, 2026. Chancellor Justin Schwartz announced that the campus is granting five days of paid administrative leave as well as three paid holidays over Winter Break. �Ͼ�Ʒ�� will resume regular campus operations on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Please note some days off during Winter Break are considered Holidays while other days off are considered Administrative Leave.

December 24 - Administrative Leave
December 25 – Holiday
December 26 – Holiday
December 29 – Administrative Leave
December 30 – Administrative Leave
December 31 – Administrative Leave
January 1 – Holiday
January 2 - Administrative Leave

Holiday Time Entry for staff using AiM

For overtime-eligible classified and university staff who normally report their hours in AiM: Overtime-eligible staff required to work on a holiday may choose one of the following:

Float the Holiday - work with their supervisor and business needs of their unit to take the holiday hours at a different time (before June 30, 2026), OR
Holiday Pay - receive time and a half for the time worked on the holiday.

Those who did not work December 25, December 26, and/or January 1 will take holiday leave. Please enter a line in your timecard with 8 hours of leave code HLDY.
Those who worked on December 25, December 26, and/or January 1, and plan to take 8 hours of holiday leave in the future.
1. Please use your normal time type (ex: RGS, SHF) for the holiday date on which you worked.
2. When you take the 8 hours of holiday leave on a future date (before June 30, 2026), please use leave code FLHLDY and add a comment indicating which holiday date into the comments field (for example, “December 25 holiday”).
Those who worked on December 25, December 26, and/or January 1, and do not plan to take holiday leave hours in the future
1. If you are overtime eligible staff, and you worked on any of the holiday dates above, enter 8 hours under the work order/phase assigned to you with time type: 2HW. This will code the hours for premium pay of 1.5x salary as indicated by the COWINS partnership agreement (this code works for both classified and university staff).
2. Do not add a second line with leave code HLDY. The HLDY leave code is only to be used by staff who are not working the holiday.

Administrative Leave Time Entry for staff using AiM

For those who took December 24, 29, 30, 31 and/or Jan. 2 off, please use leave code ADLV.
For overtime-eligible classified and university staff: Overtime-eligible staff required to work on December 24, 29, 30, 31 and/or Jan. 2 shall work with their supervisor and the business needs of your unit to take your 8 hours of Administrative Leave per day worked on a future date (before June 30, 2026).

Holiday Time Entry for staff who normally record their time off in MyLeave

Holiday leave will automatically be entered for you in the MyLeave system. You don’t need to do anything more.

Administrative Leave Time Entry for staff who normally record time off in MyLeave

MyLeave users DO need to report the December 24, 29, 30, 31 and Jan. 2 administrative leave days into MyLeave. Enter 8 hours per day and please mark status as Administrative Leave.

Supervisors

Please make sure your staff have entered the correct pay code(s) for the overtime accrued before approving it to alleviate timecard corrections.

If you are on a 4/10, swing or night shift schedule, please check with your supervisor for your scheduled hours and holiday time off.

A crane will be positioned just north of the Ekeley Science (EKLC) building in the quad from October 20–24 to support the installation of large heat recovery units in the basement mechanical room of the central wing. This work zone will overlap with the existing Cristol/Ekeley Sciences renovation work site and storage area (including the trailer).

To accommodate crane operations and large truck access, the Norlin-side bike rack has been temporarily taken offline by our Operations team. Please plan alternate bike parking during this period.

Our FM Safety Committee is offering two CPR/First Aid training sessions on Friday, Nov. 3, hosted by CPR Solutions. These classes are open to all FM staff with supervisor approval and a speedtype to cover the $65 fee (charged to your department/shop).

No prior experience needed – first-timers are welcome! Certification is valid for 2 years.

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
12:30 PM – 3:30 PM

(Each session includes 1.5 hours of First Aid + 1.5 hours of CPR)

The Meridian deployment is scheduled for Wednesday, October 29th.

What is Meridian?

Meridian is our PDC department document management system, used primarily to store, organize, and access contracts, engineering drawings, and other technical documentation. While not everyone in the department uses Meridian directly, it plays a vital role behind the scenes — supporting construction projects and compliance efforts across campus.

This upcoming system upgrade will make Meridian easier to access and more efficient for those who rely on it daily. Even if you don’t use Meridian yourself, this deployment helps ensure our PDC team has the tools they need to keep their projects running smoothly.

What to Expect:

System Access: Meridian will be temporarily unavailable during the deployment window. Specific details regarding timing of deployment and preparation needed by those who use the system will be sent out directly to those users early next week.
New Features: Post-deployment, users will see enhancements in the PowerWeb interface. Meridian Explorer will remain the same. The new system will be web based and no longer require a Remote Desktop for access.
Support: A deployment support team will be available to assist with any issues or questions that arise.

Infrastructure and Resilience will be hosting our winter employee appreciation luncheon on Thursday, December 4^th. As always, we will be announcing our employee annual award winners. If you have noticed I&R employees working to make the campus a better place to work, study, or visit, please consider submitting a nomination for one of several awards described in the link below. As a CU Health Plan – High Deductible member, you already know your Health Savings Account (HSA) is an important tool in planning for future health care needs.

CU HSA Open Enrollment is a great time to examine your savings and make any adjustments ahead of the 2026 tax year.

You can update your HSA through the employee portal from 8 a.m. (MDT) Wednesday, Oct. 15 to 5 p.m. (MDT) Wednesday, Oct. 29.

Your enrollment will be effective Jan. 1, 2026. While you can enroll and update your contributions at any time, Employee Services recommends using open enrollment as an opportunity to evenly distribute your contributions throughout the upcoming year.

Contribution limits increasing for 2026:

Individual - $4,400
Individual - (age 55 or older) - $5,400
Family - $8,750
Family (age 55 or older) - $9,750

Get the most out of your HSA

A few things to consider:

Are you getting the maximum benefits from your account?
Do you want to adjust your contributions?
Do you want to explore ways to invest your HSA funds to grow your savings?
