Learn how to design and operate sustainable building systems across diverse settings. You鈥檒l focus on modelling and designing energy control systems, and will also explore building to grid integration, computational fluid dynamics, sustainable building design and more.

Lighting and Day Lighting

Explore the technical and design aspects of illumination engineering. You鈥檒l learn the fundamentals of indoor and outdoor lighting design, including lighting controls, optics, thermal and mechanical electronics, daylight analysis, and the relationship between lighting, health and productivity.

Most people spend 90% of their time indoors, and this specialization examines how to create comfortable, healthy and productive indoor spaces. These concerns are studied in the context of their environmental impacts, with a focus on minimizing energy consumption.听

Structural Engineering

Prepare to become a licensed structural engineer while learning how to ensure buildings are designed in safe, resilient and sustainable ways. You鈥檒l study core structural engineering competencies, including design, analysis and evaluation of overall building structures.听

Admissions Requirements & Application Information

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related STEM field from an accredited institution with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Students who already possess an MS in Engineering meet our program requirements.
  • Students without an MS in Engineering will need to meet the following undergraduate prerequisite courses:
    • Ordinary Differential Equations
    • Physics I or Physics II
    • Thermodynamics
    • Any other prerequisite courses identified by the academic advisor
  • Statement of purpose outlining your goals and interests.
  • Letters of recommendation.
  • Resume/CV highlighting relevant experience听
  • Fall admissions: February 1
  • Spring admission: October 1
  • Choose your preferred program and gather the required documents.
  • Submit your online application
  • Applications are evaluated by faculty and admissions decisions are typically announced within 4-6 weeks.听
  • English proficiency scores (TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo).
  • Financial documentation for visa purposes.
  • International credential evaluation (if applicable)听
  • Up to 9 graduate-level credits from another institution may transfer with approval, provided they weren't used toward a previous degree.听

A professional master's degree offers professionals new opportunities for career advancement and equips them with a broader skill set, enabling them to handle more responsibilities in their professions. This often leads to substantial increases in responsibilities and salary. Additionally, working professionals frequently benefit from financial support from their employers, with many companies covering a large portion of their employees鈥 master's degree expenses.

In some cases, a limited number of graduate level course credits can be transferred from another regionally accredited institution and applied toward a master or PhD degree. These credits must be approved by your faculty advisor and the Graduate School. Students who have completed their first semester in the master or PhD program are eligible to seek transfer credit.

Students seeking a degree from the 老九品茶 must complete the majority of their coursework while enrolled in a graduate program as a degree seeking student. Generally speaking, graduate-level courses that have not been used toward a bachelor degree, and in which grades of B or better are earned, are eligible for transfer into the MS or PhD programs. Credits from a completed master program cannot be transferred into a current master program. A maximum of 9 credits can be transferred to the MS program, and a maximum of 18 credits can be transferred to the PhD program.

Enrollment can be deferred for up to one year from the original application term. A written request (e-mail is acceptable) must be sent to the graduate program advisor for a deferment.

Faculty welcome visitors, and appointments should be made directly with them via e-mail. Faculty information is found on the department's website. You should directly contact faculty members who specialize in an area of interest similar to your own by sending them an e-mail requesting an appointment and/or tour of their labs.
