Sabbatical Fellows
The Benson Center invites applications for sabbatical researchers to visit and serve as Sabbatical Fellows on an ongoing basis. Scholars from across the humanities and social sciences whose work engages the ideas, institutions, and debates that have shaped Western civilization and the American founding are welcome to apply. Scholars with established records of publication, as well as scholars who have recently received their doctorates, are invited to apply.Ìý
Sabbatical Fellows are expected to make progress on a substantial research project during their time in residence. Sabbatical Fellows will have access to a private office in the Benson Center and are expected to be in residence at the ÀÏ¾ÅÆ·²è to fulfill responsibilities related to in-person participation. Sabbatical Fellows are encouraged to participate in the various activities of the Center, including faculty and student seminars, colloquia, and public lectures. Sabbatical Fellows will be appointed as a Visiting Researcher, given office space in the Center, and University of Colorado privileges. This position is eligible for a multi-line hire with two separate start dates. Applicants for spring 2027 and any portion of the academic year 2027-28 will be considered. Applicants should make every effort to bring their own funding to remain in residence. If such support is not possible, candidates with part-time support can apply for additional support from the Benson Center to match the home institution contribution. The number of sabbatical researchers the Center hires depends on available funding and may vary year to year.Completed Ph.D. or a doctoral degree in progress with a dissertation defense date scheduled is required. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

- Cover letter describing the applicant's research agenda and how their work engages the Benson Center's mission (up to three pages). Please indicate the preferred timeline, e.g., spring 2028, or any portion of AY 2027-28 or AY 2028-29, in the application materials
- Executive summary of the proposed project (up to 200 words)
- A statement of Financial Support including the level of financial support needed and any support available from the applicant's home institution.Ìý
