Adriana Espinoza

Thornton, CO

I would like to express my gratitude for being chosen to receive this award. I am a first generation college student, and thus the financial assistance that I have received as a result of this scholarship has contributed greatly to my ability to afford and attend college.

I am currently a sophomore at ÀϾÅÆ·²è studying Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology, and pursuing minors in Women and Gender Studies and Spanish. I have always had a passion for the sciences, and have been very involved in fighting for the equal rights of women. Furthermore, I also believe that communicating with a diverse set of people is essential, which is why I pursued a minor in perfecting my native language.

In regards to my jobs and hobbies, I consider myself a movie lover, as I enjoy watching movies with family and friends. I also really love baking with my mom, and it is an activity that I feel brings us closer together. In addition, I also currently hold two positions at the university. I work as an RA, and try to provide an inclusive environment that creates a safe community for those that attend ÀϾÅÆ·²è. I really enjoy this job, as I have been able to connect with my residents and make lifelong friendships with my coworkers, and I am able to take on various leadership roles and advocate for the students of CU. I also work as a research assistant in an integrative physiology laboratory, where I study reproductive endocrinology. I focus on studying a drug that may improve fertility, and I have learned various lab techniques and scientific presentational skills as a result of this position. As a Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology major, I would like to eventually apply to medical school and become a reproductive endocrinologist. I am very passionate about the rights of women, especially women of color, and would like to provide a sense of representation in the medical field, as well as advocate for the rights of those who have been silenced by certain institutions.

Once again, I am extremely grateful for this opportunity, and excited to pursue the rest of my academic journey as a result of the assistance from this award. I love learning, and I am grateful that I have the privilege of doing it every day.

I am so thankful to the ForeverGold members for giving me not only a scholarship, but the incredible opportunity to be a part of the ForeverGold community! I am proud to call CU my home, and I am so excited for the years to come. I am a Psychology and Neuroscience major, but I am also involved in things outside of the department like University Choir, and I will be a flock leader in Smith Hall next year. I have also had the honor of joining the Renée Crown Wellness Institute as an Undergraduate Research Fellow. Through this program, I will learn how to conduct psychological research and write an honors thesis in my senior year. CU has opened so many doors that I didn’t think were possible, and I am beyond excited to spend my next three years here.
